Gordon Brown is quitting...

The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown has resigned as Labour leader, but might stay on as Prime Minister until a successor is chosen. Gordon is to be replaced as a he suggested to form a majority together with the LibDems.
“ The Prime Minister said: "The reason that we have a hung parliament is that no single party and no single leader was able to win the full support of the country.” (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/gordon-brown-to-quit-in-bid-to-woo-lib-dems-1970273.html)
Gordon made his announcement after a long day at Westminster when it first seemed that the Conservatives and LibDems were going to form a coalition. Naturally Gordon would like his own party to be a part of the new majority in Parliament, which meant for him to abdicate as party leader and giving other MPs the space to step up.

I am quite surprised that the Libdems were negotiating with the Conservatives at first, but as the article stated they seemed obliged to do that. The fact that Labour is now trying to form a coalition with the LibDems might be a very good way of creating a fresh regime, even though the LibDems came third in the election. Let us hope that together the parties will do great things and will push the country out of the recession and into economical health.

  1. Dear Sheila,

Good work here. I'm glad to see that you're still following the election. There are a couple of small grammatical errors in this piece that could be corrected, such as Mp's being written MPs. Otherwise a very clear summary and reaction. Well done.

  2. Hello Sheila,

Personally, I am always interested in polictics, so this summary appeals to me. I agree with you and I also hope that the LibDems and Labour will restore the British economy.

    Regards,
