Last night David Laws stepped down as chief Treasury, after the signs that he has used the public’s tax money to pay his boyfriends rent. He has been replaced by another LibDems colleague Danny Alexander. David has only worked for the new coalition for 17 days, but claimed in a letter to the new PM, that he could not resume his duties after this situation. He also stated that the PM deserved a secretary that was “not distracted by personal troubles”. Nick Clegg who was on holiday in France had to come back for a meeting. The PM claimed that he was sad about David’s resignation and that David was a “good and honourable man”. The PM also hoped that David would eventually come back to work as a MP.
I was very shocked to find that in the new coalition there are still people who do this. After all the comments on the MP's and the payback during the election, there is still an MP that uses other peoples money for himself. I think this is a disgrace and has blemished the new coalition. I wonder how the others think of his actions. I also don't understand that after such a thing, the PM still thinks that David is honourable, when he clearly hasn't been honourable against the taxpayers.

After 75 years the driving test hasn’t really changed much

Mister Penning said: “High standards of driver training and assessment are an essential contribution to helping Britain’s roads remain among the safest in the world.” (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/article7138594.ece)
The test was introduced in 1934 when it became clear that people who were dying as result of a car accident was highest that year. The number of people dying was 7,343 and has dropped to 2,538 in 2008. In 1934 the Minister of Transport announced three new acts for road safety that are still active today.

Fifth member of child-porn ring exposed leaving phone on bus
A mobile phone was left on a bus as Michael Fraser stepped off the bus in February last year in Newcastle. This phone was given to the driver of the bus and he was surprised when he found some pictures he then handed over to the police. At Michael’s home the police found 14 other mobile phones and 6 of these held indecent pictures of children like the phone that was found on the bus. The police found a number of the pictures extreme and the phone that he had left led to the conviction for having, making and sending indecent pictures. Michael Fraser has been given community order and not jail because the probation thought that he might respond positive to the order. He is now listed on the sex offenders register and will remain on this register for five years.
I strongly disagree with the sentence he has been given, as you hear more often that sex offenders get a second change around and the second time it’s usually worse. I just don’t understand those people. He had 14 phones with almost have of them containing pictures. This is just sick, he should be in jail and then put in a clinic because this man must have something hanging loose upstairs and it definitely needs fixing!

Holidaymakers warned over water quality as dirtiest beaches are named
Newspaper the Times has published an article explaining that many beaches in the UK have dirty water. According to a research from the Marine Conservation Society and published in the “Good beach guide”, one of the most dirtiest beaches is the much visited Church beach in Dorset. Other beaches that have dirty water are South Wales, Devon, Lancashire etc., showing that the beaches that are dirty are all popular resorts. The times warn that when you decide to go to the coast for Bank Holiday weekend it is best to go to the beaches that have come through the test with a sufficient. The Marine Conservation Society hold the sewers overflow responsible for the quality of the water. If the water does not improve within the next five years the authorities will advice the public not to go into the water to prevent health problems. The public is advised to go visit one of 421 beaches that haven’t had any problems with the water.
I think this is a serious issue that has to be dealt with, because it will become worse if nothing is done. It’s actually a shame that so many beaches did not come through the test, because the beaches that have such terrible waters are really nice! And apart from that, who needs to swim in the sea when they are already polluted and when we have swimming pools?!? If you are desperate to go to the beach, then don’t go into the water but have a good look at the nice view and other surrounding such as Lulworth cove in Dorset, It’s absolutely magnificent!! I went there in 2008, and the view is just so WOW that you wouldn’t even be bothered to go into the sea.

Gordon Brown is quitting...
The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown has resigned as Labour leader, but might stay on as Prime Minister until a successor is chosen. Gordon is to be replaced as a he suggested to form a majority together with the LibDems.
“ The Prime Minister said: "The reason that we have a hung parliament is that no single party and no single leader was able to win the full support of the country.” (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/gordon-brown-to-quit-in-bid-to-woo-lib-dems-1970273.html)Gordon made his announcement after a long day at Westminster when it first seemed that the Conservatives and LibDems were going to form a coalition. Naturally Gordon would like his own party to be a part of the new majority in Parliament, which meant for him to abdicate as party leader and giving other MPs the space to step up.
I am quite surprised that the Libdems were negotiating with the Conservatives at first, but as the article stated they seemed obliged to do that. The fact that Labour is now trying to form a coalition with the LibDems might be a very good way of creating a fresh regime, even though the LibDems came third in the election. Let us hope that together the parties will do great things and will push the country out of the recession and into economical health.

Influence of Lib Dems in hung parliament depends on staying ahead of Labour

I think the LibDems still have a good shot at winning the elections, but the chance that they will rule becomes smaller as neither party has the chance of getting the majority of the votes. I enjoy watching and reading about it, as I can see some similarities with the Dutch elections for the first time. The parties really have to fight their way in to power, which means that neither of them will come out clean!
